Description: James H Edwards establishment known as Edwards Store at Stanley, Tasmania. The building next door states Agent for Syracuse Plow Co. A horse and cart are backed into the doorway of the shop and bullock team standing on the lower street. Five men are out the front of the store, one is on a bike, one is holding the horses and others are standing by. The business was established by his father John Edwards. He was a pioneer storekeeper and had started out as saddler and harness maker in Stanley and in 1857 and he became the first person on the North West Coast to become a general store keeper. James took over the store after his death in 1892.
