Description: The 250 ton wooden steamship 'Orion' was built in Devonport, Tasmania in 1900. In the early 1900s Holyman's steamship the 'SS Orion' left Launceston each Wednesday for Devonport, Burnie and Stanley and return. It also traded fairly regularly to the Pelican Point Jetty. The fate of the 'Orion' remains a mystery. The ship left Pelican Point for Melbourne on 8th May 1908 with 13 passengers from Circular Head and crew of 12 loaded with a cargo of potatoes and other farm produce. She failed to reach Melbourne and searches were made without success.
