Description: Group of men and boys lined up with three very early cars outside Murphy's Garage, Nelson Street, Smithton, Tasmania. T J Murphy is second from right. The garage advertises Mobiloils on the building. The street was unsealed. Timber buildings including the house next door and paling fences. There are no petrol bowsers on the street as the petrol came in cases which held two four gallon tins and the cars were filled directly from the tins.
