Description: ASIE was a 2,954 ton 4-masted steel barque built at Rouen in 1897. She was probably the largest square-rigger to berth at Hobart. On one visit she was becalmed off Cape Frederick Henry with the tide carrying her in. Her spiked steel bowsprit stuck in a crevice in the cliff and the vessel hung suspended for a few minutes until the bowsprit broke. The boats were swung out ready for the crew to evacuate when a puff of wind blew her clear.
