Description: Wishart gas producer. Gas producers burnt charcoal and when water was added produced a gas mixture that was a replacement fuel for petrol vehicles. Gas producers were used widely during World War II when petrol was rationed. The apparatus was generally towed behind the vehicle. This gas producer was owned by Frank Jackson during the early 1940's and powered his truck and later his shearing plant. Mr Jackson produced all the charcoal to power the machine. Mainly constructed from steel but some brass parts. One loose lid and main cylinder also has a lid.
