Description: Copping went to sea as an 11 year old on the whaler, TASMANIAN LASS. In his early years at sea he worked as a cook, a fisherman, a Derwent waterman and a whaler. It was a rough life shared with 'villainous' ticket of leave convicts. When whaling declined he became master of passenger and trading vessels on the London route, including the HARRIET McGREGOR.
