Description: Framed sepia image of an early photograph of The Hermitage. The cottage was built on the first freehold title taken up after the the island was thrown open for selection in 1888. The first owner was George Boyes. He left the property to the Eden family. Photograph was taken from the opposite side of the creek, where the vegetable garden was located. The blue-gum forests that originally covered the Palana area can be seen in the background.
