Three of the crew jumped overboard, two got back but the third had jumped right into the whale's mouth and wasn't seen again. After her last whaling trip in 1873 she began trading out of Hobart. In 1877, just 7 days after FLYING CHILDERS was wrecked at Port Davey, MAID OF ERIN faced the same fate when she dragged her anchors in a gale.
