Description: Sand glass hour glass, with wooden stand. It was made for the Low Head Maritime Museum to demonstrate one method of calculating a ship's speed. The line was let out for 14 seconds (other methods operated on 8 seconds) then it was hauled in and the knots were counted. The hour glass was made by a glass blower from Launceston. The stand was made at the Pilot Station Maritime Museum.
