The foundation stone of the building with its slate roof and seating accommodation for 300 worshippers was laid by Reverend W.A. Quick of Horton College, Ross, on the 24th October 1865. The first service was conducted by the Reverend W.D.Lelean on the 17th March 1867. The original brick 1840's Methodist Chapel is depicted on the right hand side of the post card. This structure was demolished in the late 1960's. The image was captured from the north-western direction in 1961.
