Description: A man seated on a cart led by a horse and three gents outside the Stanley Butter factory situated under the Nut near the old wharf at Stanley. The first Butter Factory in Circular Head, Tasmania was at Stanley and was built about 1890 and operated until 1893 and was then sold to Mr Charles Edwards. Under his ownership it became known as Circular Head Cheese and Bacon factory. It was served by a creamery at Forest and produced about 20 tons of butter a year. In 1899 a 1000 pigs were killed in the associated bacon factory. The factory was eventually taken over by North West Dairy Co-operative and then later sold to Duck River Co-operative.
