      Description: B/W photo-copy of Original Photograph of William Purkiss . William Purkiss was born in England in 1930. he was transported to Van Diemen's land for stealing an apple. He arrived in the colony 30th December 1845 on the ship "Pestonage Bomange". Being only 15 years of age at the time, Purkiss ws sent to Point Puer, the Probation Station for boys at Port Arthur. He was later sent to Lymington Probation Station. He worked on several farms after obtaining his freedom. Later he started his own business, a Post Office at Gardner's Bay, Cygnet.
