 Click thumbnail for a larger image. | Description: The McGregor brothers, Alexander, James and John, arrived with their parents in 1830. (John was born en route.) They became prominent in Hobart's maritime community. Alex had a shipyard on the Domain and was partner with James in McGregor Brothers, ship owners and merchants. They owned many vessels including the whalers, EMILY DOWNING, ASIA< DERWENT HUNTER FLYING CHILDERS ans WATERWICH; the London-Hobart traders, HARRIET MCGREGOR LUFRA and HELEN and a number of Intercolonial vessels which also served New Zealand and Mauritius.
