Shipping sheep to Three Hummock Island

      Date: 1933 -

Description: Bill Nichols carting sheep on the ketch 'Lady Jean' from Three Hummock Island possibly during the time that he and his wife Amelia leased the island. They bought the lease in 1933 and held it until 1950. Mrs Nichols managed the island farming enterprise grazing 350 cattle and 1500 sheep while Bill continued trading and fishing. During the time they leased Three Hummock Island Bill and Amelia Nichols bought Trefoil Island in the Hunter group in 1948 where they grazed sheep and were involved in the mutton bird industry.
