      Description: The 269 ton barque, EMILY DOWNING was built at Port Arthur in 1841 by convict labour and named LADY FRANKLIN. This vessel, built to convey prisoners and stores between Hobart and Norfolk Island, was once taken over by the convicts. In 1855 she was sold and renamed. Three years later she joined the Hobart whaling fleet and was soon under the command of Captain James Lucas. On one rough trip in 1864 Captain Lucas and 5 others were washed overboard
