V Date: 1936 - Description: Hand painted black & white photograph using watercolour and acrylic of the A.V.Gregory painting of the auxiliary ketch Lady Flinders under sail in Bass Strait. The ship was wrecked off Three Hummock Island when under the command of Captain H Lund on August 25th, 1938. Image is framed. An original Arthur V. Gregory label is attached to the back of the mounting board. Arthur Victor Gregory (b. 1867, d. 1957) began taking commissions for ship portraits as a boy. His reputation had been established in Melbourne by the early 1880's and he continued producing ship portraits in great numbers for the next 50 years.
