Description: Galvanised steel lamp base with handle attached by rivets. Inside is a lid with brass tube/wick attached, but this part is jammed in, so where carbide & water were loaded cannot be seen. Water drips onto ? carbide and makes acetylene gas, which comes out of orifice and is lit to provide a bright light. Such lamps were used for possum hunting around the early 1900's, when there was a market for the skins. This lamp probably used by the Boyes brothers, George & Herbert.
