Description: An open, white painted wood and plywood box containing coarse salt into which plucked mutton birds were rolled and salt rubbed over, in preparation for packing in wooden casks. Casks were then topped up with brine of a concentration to float a potato or fresh egg. The number 45 is written in texta on LHS of outside of the box. One of the original artefacts in the replica mutton-bird processing shed.
