      Description: Charles Chessel built Maria Orr, the first whaler to be built in Hobart and the first ship-rigged vessel to be built in Tasmania. In recognition of this the Government presented her with a suit of sails. She was built for William Orr and launched in 1838. Chessel left Hobart and opened Chessel's Dock at Melbourne where he built the first steamer to run on the Yarra.
