James born in Sydney 1837,arrived Hobart 1850, completed schooling at Hutchins School 1851, apprenticed to cabinet maker 1852, completed course then went to New Zealand for 7 years, returned and opened cabinet makers shop in Murray st Hobart Tas, married Eliza Smith 1872, with Edward Ford bought Garden Island Creek sawmill 1880, moved to Garden Island Creek with wife and family 1890, sawmill failed 1901, James and son William commenced orcharding 1901, James became Justice of the Peace, retired from orcharding in 1930, James and Eliza had a family of 10 children, James died at Garden Island Creek 1935, Eliza preceeded him
