      Description: Line up of mill workers at Ernest H. Fenton's sawmill - Smithton, Tasmania. In 1900 J S Lee employed Ulverstone based E H Fenton to build the Pelican Point jetty for the timber shipments from Circular Head. He became aware of the saw milling industry in the area and commenced to build a sawmill on Montagu Road on a site behind the present Smithton High School. He, with his sons Hugh, Charles and Ben went on to have sawmills at Smithton, Salmon River and Redpa till 1941. His brother Frank also had a sawmill at Christmas Hills. Fenton's mill at Smithton was the first industry in the town to be connected to Hydro-electric power in 1930.
