Description: White cotton crochet square milk jug covers with penguin shells (Austroginella muscaria) also called Fly-like margin shells, attached at points in order to keep cover on jug. Sometimes group of three shells attached to a point. Using shells rather than glass beads is unique to Furneaux Islands and margin shells could stand the boiling process for washing the cover. One cover has rose pattern and was made by Iola Fowler. Second cover has swan pattern and was made by Rose Beeton (nee Mansell). Covers were used to keep dust and flies out of the milk. Samples of margin or penguin shells accompany the jug covers.
