      Date: 1941 -

Description: An 'A' class Climax locomotive at work in bush in the Salmon River area of Circular Head, Tasmania. Two 'A' class Climax locomotives worked on the Circular Head Amalgamated Timber Co line to Salmon River area in 1941. They both apparently were purchased from NSW and one of them had to be converted from 4ft 2in gauge to the 3ft 6in gauge of the Salmon River line. The 'A' class Climax engine was a wooden framed, gear-driven locomotive with an ability to haul heavy loads rather than speed. They were considered historically significant but eventually were abandoned near Redpa for several years until 1970 when they were completely destructed by scrap merchants.
