Description: This cenotaph is situated on the Village Green in Westbury, Tasmania. After the First World War era, a committee was formed in Westbury with the intention of erecting a stone monument in the honour of the local soldiers who had paid the supreme sacrifice during The Great War. The committee consisted of Messrs. R.W. Swainston (Chairman), F.Mehegan (Secretary), J.A.Woods (Treasurer), G.P. Adams, G.Scott, J.B.Stewart, F.H.Fitzpatrick, and S.J. Heathcote. The structure was designed by Mr. J.Dunn of Launceston. Westbury's Fallen Soldiers Monument was unveiled on the 25th June 1922. A poem titled "A Tribute To Those Who Fell", composed by local poet Mr. Thomas Squires, was recited at the function. This photograph was taken from the north-western direction in April 2004.
