Description: The blacksmith at work in the Blacksmith's Shop in Smith Street, Smithton, Tasmania. The blacksmith worked with iron and played an important part in the pioneer settlements. He was able to make and mend farm machinery, make tools and many other things used on the farms as well as horse shoes which were made to fit each individual horse and he also shod the horses.
