Returning from Auckland in 1861 his schooner TYNE was wrecked off Cape Pillar in bad weather. Most were saved by a rope strung to a cliff by the courageous mate. Nine years later on a voyage to Adelaide he lost the barque EUCALYPTUS when she struck a rock now named after the vessel. And in 1876 he had to fend off Malay pirates on a trip to Shanghai and Yokohama. Format: pictorial and artistic works Object: glass slides Titles: Riddle Subjects: people People/Orgs: Riddle, Capt.
