By the authority of the Colonial Secretary, "The Watch House " was built in 1837 by convict labour from Westbury under the supervision of Lieutenant Kenworthy. The function of the "lock-up" was to detain petty criminals and those who were disturbing the peace. Today the building is privately owned. The court room and waiting room are currently being used as a lounge and family room. The original gaol cells are still intact, one being used as a bathroom, and the other being used as a toilet.
