Description: Hand sewing machine in a carrying case. Plywood case is covered in navy coloured canvas, peeling in places, with a black handle. Machine and steel baseplate painted black. The machine folds down into the case for carrying The instruction book (photocopy) is stored in the museum. Inscription on the front of the machine reads"TAILOR BIRD REGD TRADEMARK MADE IN ENGLAND", in gold, with a round logo of a bird in front of a cocoon stitched from two leaves, on a white background. Machine is still in working order despite signs of rust. Reel of cotton in position and one bobbin and two bobbin cases with machine. Serial number "13577" is in the case. Detachable handle stores in case when machine is folded away. Originally belonged to Marj Cook.
