      Description: Rural scene. Early photograph of the Marrawah, Tasmania cheese factory. Distance to reliable ports meant that milk had to be processed in the district. In the first decade of the 1900s private cheese factories were started in the Marrawah district at one time ten men were employed to milk 200 cows by hand. Picture shows the desolate landscape after the forests were cleared by ring-barking and burning.
