Description: Kay's general store - grocer, draper, in Emmett Street Smithton, Tasmania. Robert Kay was a shrewd businessman and built up one of the largest grazing businesses in Tasmania. He was known for his integrity and generosity. He opened a store on his property 'Myrtle Hill' at Irishtown and later opened stores in the Irishtown township and this one in Smithton.
