Description: The VELOCITY,a 140 ton brig built in England in 1827, joined Dr Crowther's whaling fleet in 1869. On one voyage to the Solomon Islands she sprang a leak, lost her anchors and chain and her crew came down with fever. Like many whalers Velocity was no longer viable by 1885. She was moored at Ross Cove, sank at her moorings and eventually had to be blown up.The image shows her being blown up with ALADDIN behind.
