Description: Wooden steamship built at Port Cygnet in 1895 by John Wilson.Because LOTTAH had a perpendicular boiler her tubes could not be cleaned without first cooling the firebox. But after about 3 hours the tubes became so choked she couldn't steam. The Captain's solution was a handful of blasting powder thrown in the firebox. Every so often as she plied her way up the Huon or down the Channel a sudden blast would be heard and a pillar of smoke would rise from her funnel Format: pictorial and artistic works Object: glass slides Titles: Lottah Subjects: steamships Institution: Maritime Museum of Tasmania Object number: MMT_P_GSL252 Disclaimer The content of this record is provided by Maritime Museum of Tasmania.
