Description: The school children pictured in front of the first school buses at Smithton State School. The first school bus from the school at Smithton, Tasmania, began its run in 1926. It had a canvas top to keep off the sun and rain. Once the bus runs commenced many of the smaller one teacher schools in the outlying districts of Circular Head closed and the children attended the Smithton State School.
