Description: Capstan, or windlass, recovered from the wreck of the G.W. Wolff, wrecked off Prime Seal Island on August 8, 1912. Wooden core made from four tree trunks (growth rings of trees vsible) with iron attachments, There are three cogged wheels in centre and large cogs on either end. Two outer wheels of centre narrowed but larger in diameter than central wheel. Salvaged, along with three anchors, by a R.A.A.F using a Chinook helicopter, in 1985.
