Description: Frank Gaffney's store, a weatherboard building with a group of four men and possibly two dogs outside, at Balfour, Tasmania in 1909. Francis 'Frank' Gaffney was a pioneer butcher at the Gormanston-Lyell field. After he moved to the west coast he owned butchers shops in most major mining towns. He moved to Balfour in 1910 and soon owned a butcher's shop, the Imperial Hotel, the general store, a bakery, the bank agency, the post office, livery stables and blacksmith shop and had the mail contract to Marrawah. He also purchased land which later became part of Kaywood the beef cattle farm at Temma.
