      Date: 1899 -

Description: Unidentified engine part from the wreck of the Toroa. Bronze, cylindrical, a round flange at the top with 12 - 12 mm holes and four protruding bolts for fixing to an adjacent part, a rectangular flange at the side also with 12 - 12 mm holes. Barnacle and concretion encrustation. The Toroa, a steel steamship built in 1899, was wrecked off Settlement Point on April 11, 1916. The part was recovered from the wreck by diver Mike Nichols.
