Description: This building is situated at No. 16 Lyall Street in Westbury, Tasmania. Mr. Ernest Gordon Jordan operated a timber merchant, building, and undertaker's business from this address in the early 1900s. The business was acquired by Mr. Herbert W. Heathcote in the early 1920's who converted the structure into a general store, with a Book Maker's business at the rear. Mr. Heathcote operated the shop and later in a partnership with his son Maurice, for fifty years. Heathcotes General Store and Newsagency closed in early 1972. The former country store with its unique front verandah has remained unoccupied for some years. The photograph was taken from the north-western direction in April 1993.
