Description: Murrays Reward Mine at Balfour, Tasmania in early 1900s. By 1910 this mine was exporting 1268 tons of ore worth 16,000 pounds. But the decline at Balfour was dramatic and sudden and by 1912 the grade of ore declined at depth, there were problems with water and prices of copper crashed making it impossible to pay the miners. The dream had failed and the leases were gradually abandoned.
