Description: Highfield building, the first home of the VDL Co Manager at Stanley before the restoration commenced. Highfield on the north west coast of Tasmania is a unique part of Tasmanian's heritage and one of the most significant intact colonial farm complexes in Australia. Highfield was built between 1832-1835 for Edward Curr the Colonial Chief Agent of the VDL Co and his family. Highfield was unique for its time quite different from the architecture of the period. The house was neglected during the 1900s and was in a fragile condition when it was acquired in 1982 by the Tasmanian Government and the restoration work began as the funds become available.
