Description: View of the Smithton High School building in the c.1950s at the Montagu Road and Mill Road intersection. High School classes first began in Smithton in the late 1920s but heated debate continued for many years before a permanent building was established. The school was eventually built in 1937 and opened on 8th February 1939 without much of the equipment needed by the staff and students.
