Description: The Australian ensign is made from red cotton background, with the five white stars of the Southern Cross and the white six pointed Commonwealth star below the Union Jack in the top left corner. It was used on the ketch Dawn, owned and skippered by Mr Jack Willett, which traded from Launceston to Flinders Island (1905 - 1909). The Red Ensign was the flag flown by all Australian registered merchant vessels.
