Description: This hotel is situated at No. 107 Meander Valley Road in Westbury, Tasmania. The public house was built on land which was originally granted to Mr. William Moriarty who was a former Royal Navy Captain and at that time, an Assistant Police Magistrate in the district. Mr. William John Forbes was granted a licence for the establishment on the 6th. October 1843. Mr Forbes was the former licensee of the Westbury Inn. The inaugural meeting to form The Great Western Agricultural Association (Agricultural Show) was held at the Berriedale Hotel on the 6th of October 1863. Sir Richrd Dry was elected the first President. A balcony was added to the building in the 1912 - 1913 era. The original Horse Stables still remain intact.The former Premier of Tasmania Mr Eric E.Reece who authorised the flooding of Lake Pedder for hydro power development was given the name "Electric Eric" (a name that stuck) in this building in 1972. Various improvements have been carried out on the structure in recent years including a name change. Today, the business operates as the Westbury Hotel. The image was captured from the south-eastern direction in April 2003.
