Description: Breeches buoy, a yellow life ring buoy with canvas breeches, used for life saving when a ship has run aground on a coast and is in danger of breaking up or sinking. Contact with the wrecked ship is made from the shore by means of a line fired from a rocket gun. A jackstay is then rigged between the ship and shore, and the breeches buoy, supported in a sling attached to a traveller is hauled back and forth between ship and shore by an endless whip along the jackstay. This was part of the equipment of the 'Wybia II' the MBL (Marine Board of Launceston) tug.
