Description: The bottle cutter was hand forged and made out of cast iron. In the early 1900s jars were scarce in the Woodsdale area, but there were plenty of bottles. The bottle cutter would be placed into the fire till it became red hot and then gently placed over the neck of the bottle and then placed into a tub of cold water, where the neck of the bottle would break off. The rim of the jar would then be filed smooth and the jar would be used for preserving.
