      Description: The steamship BANKS PENINSULAR 177 tons was built at Grangemouth in the UK in 1889. BANKS PENINSULAR was one of a number of vessels owned by Captain E T Moore and used to serve the West Coast mining boom. In 1892 she made several trips to Cox's Bight to load bags of tin from the beach. Later she was owned by the contractors who built the Strahan to Zeehan railway. In 1896 she was owned by the Union Steamship Company of New Zealand.
