![]() ![]() Click thumbnail for a larger image. | Creator(s): Samuel Nock Description: Sir John Franklin's percussion pistols ( by Samuel Nock of London C.1836 ) were a gift from Captain James Clark Ross when Ross was in Hobart with HMS EREBUS and HMS TERROR in 1841. Lieutenant - Goveror Franklin returned to England in 1843 leaving his pistols in Lady Franklin's Ancanthe collection. During the 1930's Daniel Archer of the property "Landfall", near Launceston, acquire the pistols. Peter and Faye Thurley purchased the Archer Gun Collection in 1967 and donated the Franklin pistols to the Maritime Museum of Tasmania in 2004. The pistols are contained in a green felt lined, highly polished mahogany case.
