Description: A hand tinted black and white portrait of Silas Olding, Englishman, sailmaker, who came to Flinders Island in the early 1890s to work on William Hay Ferguson's farm. Later he acquired land at Ranga, the original homestead being near the present (2000) shearing shed of Seaview Cottage. The photo is framed in a carved, scroll motif wooden frame. Silas Olding married Miss Quarrel and they had two sons and three daughters.
