Tom Presnell, from Cygnet, had his ship commandeered by the US Navy during World War II near New Guinesa. As a result he was made a captain in the US Navy. Unfortunately he was killed during the War. In memory of Tom and another local, an illuminated cross was placed on the Methodist Church in Cygnet.
