![]() Click thumbnail for a larger image. | Description: The 368 ton whaling barque was built at Kensington, USA in 1810 and named NORTH AMERICA. After many years of South Sea whaling this vessel was purchased by Alexander McGregor in 1861 and renamed DERWENT HUNTER. For 5 years she was used as a merchant ship taking produce to Sydney, transporting troops to New Zealand and bringing timber from Seattle. She returned to whaling from 1866 until she was hulked in 1885. Her last use was as clubhouse of the Domain (now Derwent) Sailing Squadron. On Christmas Day,1907 she was accidentally burnt.
