Description: Kauri acquired Circular Head Amalgamated Timbers at Stanley, Tasmania, in 1949. Within a few months of the take over, on 9 September 1950, a fire broke out in the pre-drying plant and the entire Stanley plant was destroyed by fire in spite of the efforts of the Smithton and Wynyard fire bridages. The complex and the racked timber were almost a complete loss. However a bigger and more modern complex was built and in operation within a year. The picture shows the fire at its height.
